Thanks to O’Mara who changed servers every link that is a direct link such as this: http://184.172.211.159/~gzdocs/documents/zimmerman_bond_hearing_exhibits/george_zimmerman_medical_report.pdf is now broken. I’m still deciding if I want to go through every post of mine, look for such links and correct it.

I’d recommend you wait before changing anything. For a time the links to the audio of Crump’s clips were broken and then they came back online.
Shawn is reorganizing things and once it’s finished you’ll know what works and what doesn’t.

I’m talking about direct links to files, not links to the GZ site itself. I don’t even understand it myself but the GZ site is a different place then where they keep the files. The change includes changing the URL to the files.
Here is another example. If you go back to my post on the ABC clip you’ll find in there a link to the Crump/DD file #3. That link looks like this:
http://184.172.211.159/~gzdocs/documents/0113/w8_interview/w8_recordingA3_red.mp3
When you click on that link it will get timed out because it can’t find the file because as we know the server has changed and along with it the URL.
Now let’s look at the URL for that same file on the new server:
http://www.gzdocs.com/documents/0113/w8_interview/w8_recordingA3_red.mp3
Notice the different URL:
Before: http://184.172.211.159/
After: http://www.gzdocs.com/
Now maybe if I’m lucky there’s something technical that can be done to redirect all those old links to the new ones but I don’t know because that is something which is beyond my computer knowledge.
Just a side note here. If you click on the gzdocs.com URL something really strange happens and it redirects you to the donation page, don’t ask me I don’t get it.
Pinging http://www.gzdocs.com yields the IP address 174.132.194.252.
I tried it by substituting the new IP address in your old “http://184.172.211.159/~gzdocs/documents/0113/w8_interview/w8_recordingA3_red.mp3” and it works!! – it downloaded the mp3 file 🙂
For direct access to the documents, use a URL of the form:
[audio src="http://174.132.194.252/documents/0113/w8_interview/w8_recordingA3_red.mp3" /]
I doubt that MOM is personally involved in the management of the website or fileserver, but I feel your frustration.

Shawn Vincent, the tech guy, may be running the technical side of things but changes this big would have no doubt been run past O’Mara along with the info that all the old links would break. Also, O’Mara is the captain so to speak, technically George is, so in a general sense everything that comes out of O’Mara’s office is from O’Mara.

Hes probably not using a static( always the same ) IP address system. They are more expensive ( generally ) to lease than a standard Dynamic(changes at whim of the provider) IP internet service.
I suspect the change is the provider just rotating the ip addresses at the end of business cycle. Not sure there is much anyone can do short of paying the extra cash for the higher lvl business account. If the files are linked via webpage instead of ip address (www.*.* vs 192.168.0.1 ) then the links update automatically. But GZ docs has been notoriously bad about that 😦
